Woman driving the wrong way on the interstate says her husband was behind the wheel, but police discover significant discrepancies in her account.

On the night of September 13, Tampa police executed a pit maneuver to halt a driver going the wrong way on Interstate 4. The driver was reportedly traveling west in the eastbound lanes.

Bodycam footage captures the moments following the stop.

It seems things escalated quickly when an officer inquired about what the woman had been drinking that night, leading to field sobriety tests that clearly didn’t go well.

At one point, an officer drew a weapon, pointing it at the driver’s side window as the driver requested to exit the vehicle through the passenger door.

“Do you realize you’re on the wrong side of the interstate?” the officer asked. The footage displayed a blurry image of the woman’s face as she responded, incredulously, “On this interstate?”

“Yeah, do you see all these lights coming toward us?” the officer pressed.

“Yeah, I’ll do,” she replied, and then added something like, “Baby, I do.” It was a bit confusing.

As the officer continued to explain the situation, the woman dug herself deeper with questions like, “This one? This car? Are you serious?”

Eventually, she became tearful, claiming that her husband was driving her home, despite video evidence showing she was indeed behind the wheel when they pulled her over.

“What do you mean? You were driving,” the officer insisted, to which she responded, “No, no, no, I’m in the passenger seat.”

In a frantic moment, an officer called for assistance, unsure if anyone else was in the vehicle. It turned out there wasn’t—it was just her, alone. The situation was deteriorating as officers asked what she’d been drinking.

Ultimately, she was placed under arrest for DUI, with her blood alcohol content measured at .199 and .202, significantly above the legal limit of 0.08. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Members of the public reacted to the footage online. One commenter noted her desperation to blame her nonexistent husband, while another suggested that two drinks weren’t enough to explain her behavior.

  • “My husband was driving! Someone else in the car? No way!”
  • “Wow, she’s really trying to throw her husband under the bus—too bad he’s not even there!”
  • “I wonder how many Long Island Iced Teas she had?”
  • “Great job on the pit maneuvers—definitely saved lives that night!”

The situation serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving.
