A woman from California is facing serious charges after allegedly beheading her boyfriend and fleeing to Mexico. Alyssa Marie Lira, hailing from Anaheim, was charged with murder in connection to the death of Enrique Gonzalez Carvajal, also from Santa Ana. The couple had reportedly been dating for about two months, according to police.
In addition to the murder charge, she’s up against a sentencing enhancement for using a deadly weapon. Officers discovered Gonzalez-Carvajal’s decapitated body during a welfare check on August 25.
Authorities noted that Lira fled to Mexico shortly after the incident. After a prolonged search, she was apprehended and returned to Orange County.
Anaheim police, along with the Orange County District Attorney’s Organized Crime Unit, the FBI, and Mexican officials, collaborated on the investigation.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer stated that no distance would hinder their pursuit of justice. He characterized Lira as a “cold-blooded murderer” and assured that she would face the full consequences of the law.
If found guilty, Lira could face over 25 years in state prison, with her arraignment set for February 13.
