Tragic Stabbing Incident in Portland

A woman from Un-Oregon was tragically stabbed to death on Saturday while five young children were present in her home, according to police reports.

Naryan Isman, just 24 years old, was discovered with stab wounds in a residence in Portland. The suspect, 28-year-old S-mate Joseph, was arrested hours later in Vancouver and now faces murder charges.

The children, all under the age of six, were rescued safely from the home. Due to concerns about the suspect’s presence, police had to use explosives to access the garage door and reach the children.

Julia Mansai, a neighbor, witnessed the police rescuing the children and expressed her heartbreak. “They seemed numb to the situation, as if they couldn’t process their emotions,” she noted. “It’s just sad; I feel so bad for them.” Medical examiners have ruled the cause of death as a stab wound, classifying it as homicide.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the incident remain unclear, particularly whether the children were in the same room as their mother during the attack. The incident occurred in the 6400 block of Southeast Courthouse, about nine miles east of downtown Portland.

The Portland Police Department responded to the scene around 12:30 PM, and Joseph was apprehended by the Vancouver Police Department shortly before 4 PM.

Joseph, who resides in Battlegrounds, has been booked into the Clark County Jail on charges of second-degree murder connected to domestic violence, as well as robbery. Jail records indicate he has ongoing legal issues, including violations related to domestic violence protection orders, DUI charges, and harassment.

As of now, the nature of Joseph’s relationship with Isman, and the situation concerning her children, remains unknown. Another neighbor, Sean Lioylian, expressed feelings of shock and fear. “It’s surprising,” Lioylian remarked. “It’s unnerving to see such a heavy police presence. It’s usually a safe neighborhood.”
