A woman who was thought to have been abducted from her home in Kansas has been located safely, as confirmed by authorities.
At about 3 p.m. on Tuesday, a woman who identified herself as the person seen in alarming doorbell footage, where she was reportedly taken by a man outside a Wichita residence, called the police. The Wichita Police Department made this announcement.
Officers managed to find her and took her to City Hall for a victim interview. She is a 35-year-old local resident, and the disturbing footage was recorded early Sunday around 2 a.m., as per police reports.
The authorities indicated that this incident seems to involve domestic violence, with the woman being victimized by her boyfriend.
Thankfully, she did not sustain any serious injuries, police noted.
The alarm was raised when a homeowner observed the possible kidnapping occurring on his doorbell camera.
In the footage, the woman can be heard calling out the man’s name multiple times as he carries her away.
The police released this video on Monday, seeking public assistance to identify both the man and the woman involved.
Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan emphasized the department’s focus on the woman’s safety and well-being in a statement early Tuesday.
In an attempt to advance the investigation, a $2,000 reward was announced for information related to the alleged victim, and local and federal agencies were also asked for help.
The police expressed gratitude to the public for sharing the footage and images that brought more attention to the situation, suggesting it played a critical role in the woman reaching out to them.
Looking ahead, the video and related investigation will be forwarded to the relevant attorney’s office for potential formal charges.
