Police say a woman used a murdered man’s severed thumb to access his phone Steal his money From the Cash App.

The gory details of Fasil Teklemariam’s death were revealed in court documents. according to In the New York Daily News.

“The suspects reportedly used the money to purchase marijuana, alcohol and Uber rides.”

Washington DC Metropolitan Police said the body of 53-year-old Teklemariam was discovered in his apartment in the city’s northwest corner on April 5. He had suffered multiple stab wounds and was missing a thumb.

Investigators say someone used cleaning agents to try to hide their involvement, but they found footprints in the apartment and were able to identify a suspect from security camera footage at the scene. Police say the suspect concealed his identity as he approached the apartment but did not conceal his identity while inside the building.

In late June, police arrested 19-year-old Audrey Miller and charged her with first-degree murder and armed murder in connection with the man’s death.

Police then arrested a second woman, 22-year-old Tiffany Taylor Gray, on July 1 and charged her with the same offense.

An autopsy revealed that Teklemariam suffered multiple lacerations and multiple blunt force injuries to the head.

According to The Washington Post, court documents quoted an anonymous witness as telling police that Gray knew Teklemariam and called him his “patron.” The witness also claimed that the group that attacked him cut off his thumb and stole money from his smartphone’s cash account.

The suspects reportedly stole electronic devices and other property from the slain man, then used the money to buy marijuana, alcohol and Uber rides.

Police said they were able to obtain footage of Teklemariam and Miller entering the apartment four days before the bodies were discovered.

A few hours later that same day, Miller and a group of people entered the same apartment building after following another resident there.

The video then showed the suspect entering and leaving the apartment multiple times, police said.

Investigators also found that Teklemariam had filed a report accusing Gray of changing the password to her Google account, then stealing her phone and stealing $1,600 from her Cash App.

Police said the severed thumb has yet to be recovered.
