More than 30 years after being expelled from the Magic Circle to forge her identity, the woman was given an official membership.
The Elite Association wrote in an Instagram post, sharing a photo of sorcerer Sophie Lloyd receiving her certificate, saying, “We are proud to welcome sorcerer Sophie Lloyd into the Magic Circle.”
A society dedicated to promoting the art of magic, “more than 30 years ago, Sophie took extraordinary steps to pursue her passion. Dized herself as “Raymondroid” to join the all-male society of the time.
“Today, we’re right,” he concluded.
When she received the certificate, Ms Lloyd said, “I’m not excited.”
In 1991, Ms. Lloyd tricked the examiner into the circle. The female magician was not permitted to become a member of the Elite Association at the time. She fits in with her bodysuit, wig and cloak voice. She even wore gloves to hide the woman’s hands.
Later in the same year, when the Magic Circle decided to allow women to officially become members, Ms Lloyd revealed the truth and was kicked out of society.
Lloyd said he got the idea to disguise himself while studying Mime in London in the 1980s. Her magician friend Jenny Winstanley was increasingly unhappy with the lack of women, including herself, not being able to join the Magic Circle.

Last year, the Magic Circle began searching for Ms. Lloyd, and now she has made her a part of society.
Laura London, the association’s first female chair, said, “It feels important that the Magic Circle recognizes Sophie as a role model for female magicians, indicating that we are now a completely open society.”
