‘Women Were Offended’ over ‘P*ssy Island’ Movie Title

Actress Zoe Kravitz lamented having to change the film’s title Pussy Island The film ended up being less radical because women found it offensive and cinemas refused to advertise it.

Kravitz said. Entertainment Weekly Her directorial debut is titled Blink twice Starring Channing Tatum and Naomi Ackie.

“It was very clear to me that ‘pussy’ was a word that we as a society were not yet ready to accept,” Kravitz said. “There were a lot of obstacles along the way, like the MPAA not wanting to put the word on posters and billboards and concessions, and theaters not wanting to put the word on tickets.”

“What’s interesting is, when you look at it, women are uncomfortable with the word, they see the title and they’re like, ‘I don’t want to see that movie.’ That’s one of the reasons I wanted to use the word — to reclaim it and make it a word that we’re not comfortable using,” Kravitz added. “But we’re not there yet. I think as a filmmaker, I have a responsibility to listen to that word. I care about people watching my movies and I care about how movies make people feel.”

Despite the changes, Kravitz said he still loves the new title. Blink twice.

“I think everything happens for a reason and I think that really focuses the film nicely, and I think that was always the intention,” she said.
