The leading actors of the new series, That’s Not True, highlighted its themes of compassion, grace, and faith, mentioning that it offers the kind of family-friendly drama many are seeking.
Set to premiere on Amazon’s Wonder Project subscription channel on January 25th, That’s Not True tells the story of a recently divorced mother of two and a widowed pastor raising three kids. The series explores her journey through the trials of single parenthood, her faith, and her complicated friendship with the pastor, questioning whether it could evolve into something deeper.
Actor J.R. Ramirez, known for his roles in Manifest and Power, noted during a conversation with the Faith Media Committee that this kind of show feels particularly timely. “I think there’s nothing quite like it right now,” he remarked, emphasizing how valuable it is for families to share experiences like this together.
The Wonder Project is described as a faith-driven subscription service that aims to “inspire hope and restore faith,” featuring titles like House of David, which chronicles the life of a Biblical king.
The series also features performances by Scott Foley (Felicity, Scandal) and Erin Hayes (Guys with Kids, The Goldbergs).
Ramirez pointed out that compassion is a key element of the series, noting how quick people can be to judge one another. “We often don’t realize what battles others are facing,” he added, suggesting that this theme is crucial to understanding the characters’ resilience.
He further explained that the show’s characters often get back up after setbacks, illustrating how their faith binds them together. “It’s portrayed in a beautifully relatable manner,” he stated.
Foley, who plays the pastor, echoed this sentiment, describing the series as one filled with grace, showcasing characters who genuinely care for one another. “Our show navigates these themes with purpose and grace,” he said.
Comprising eight episodes, That’s Not True will release its first two episodes on January 25th, with new episodes available weekly thereafter.
