Worker at North Dakota hotel seen tossing bed sheets into hot tub, startling guests

State Health Investigation After Hotel’s Disturbing Laundry Method

A troubling incident at a North Dakota hotel has prompted a state health investigation. A worker at Fargo’s Expressway Suites was arrested for tossing bed sheets into a bathtub in an unusual attempt to clean them.

During a stay, a guest was taken aback while poolside, watching hotel staff submerge the sheets in chlorinated water. They used a broomstick to agitate the mixture.

“Initially, I thought maybe they were trying to fix a broken drain or something like that. But then they kept adding more water, and I started to really wonder what was happening,” said guest Alex Kenmill.

“That’s just gross. Seriously, are we supposed to sleep on those sheets? It’s really disgusting,” he expressed.

The hotel has maintained that linens for guests are typically cleaned using standard laundering methods. However, it was disclosed that hot tubs had been utilized for removing stains from the sheets.

“We put the sheets in the hot tub, get out all the little stains, and then we drain the hot tub. It gets thoroughly cleaned afterwards with a powerful washer,” explained a hotel employee in a recorded phone call.

Hotel management clarified that this unconventional cleaning technique is a last resort and that staff are instructed to clean the pool only when it’s closed.

Reports indicate that senior staff claimed the sheets were only placed in the hot tub after pool hours. Moreover, one worker reportedly faced reprimand for doing it in front of guests.

The hotel informed guests that it would consult with city health officials regarding the safety of this practice.

Health specialists caution that, despite high chlorine levels in hot tubs, they can accumulate body fluids, potentially fostering bacteria.

According to the Center for Disease Control, hot tubs can be a source of various illnesses, including respiratory diseases and skin irritations, particularly if they’re not properly maintained.

“Just sitting in a hot tub can feel like it literally makes your skin fall off… it’s like shedding your skin,” guest Amy Vandal remarked.

Both Vandal and Kenmill have reported the employee’s actions to local health authorities, who are currently looking into the hotel’s operations.
