Workplace Raid by ICE Results in Detention of 50 Undocumented Migrants and Managers

Department of Homeland Security Executes Arrests in South Carolina

The Department of Homeland Security, under the leadership of Mark Wayne Mullin, has apprehended two managers and approximately 50 undocumented immigrants at a manufacturing facility in South Carolina.

Mike Howell, associated with the Oversight Project, mentioned the importance of ongoing efforts to tackle the illegal immigration issue, stating, “This is something we need to look at at scale every day to solve the illegal alien problem.”

According to a report from South Carolina Public Radio, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson revealed that six individuals have been charged with immigration-related offenses and 48 others were detained following the raid on the Abbeville factory.

The investigation, named Ghost Stories, commenced in the fall of 2024, supported by the South Carolina Department of Law Enforcement, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Greenwood Sheriff’s Office.

Wilson commented, “This is not about targeting individuals trying to support their families or businesses that unknowingly hire undocumented workers. It’s about addressing a larger conspiracy involving identity theft and the production of counterfeit documents.”

Proponents of stringent immigration reform are advocating for increased enforcement actions against employers who hire undocumented workers, hoping this will discourage future hiring practices. They argue that such actions would help uplift Americans marginalized by policies favoring low-wage workers.

Wilson warned, “If you are found to be illegally assisting undocumented immigrants in South Carolina, you will face serious legal repercussions.” He emphasized the necessity for accountability among employers who exploit hardworking Americans and undermine the law, asserting that these actions endanger national security.

Wilson further noted, “These crimes are not only stealing jobs from American workers but also creating risks regarding who is operating in crucial sectors of our economy.”

The arrests followed a lengthy probe into the widespread creation of forged documents for unauthorized immigrants.

Mark Zito, the leader of ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations in North and South Carolina, remarked, “The crimes unearthed during Operation Ghost Stories have real victims. The misuse of personal information endangers law-abiding citizens and diminishes community safety.”

The arrests have been met with criticism from business groups wary of hiring or training unemployed individuals. Pro-immigration advocates argue that this operation has left many local residents anxious, with Jace Woodrum from the ACLU of South Carolina stating, “South Carolinians are terrified today after the workplace attack in Abbeville.”

The influence of employers alongside progressive organizations has traditionally downplayed the enforcement of regulations against hiring undocumented workers. Interestingly, even pro-immigration figures like Senator Lindsey Graham acknowledged the arrests but framed them in a context more aligned with drug enforcement than immigration issues.
