‘World Leaders Know To Take Him Seriously’: Veteran Journo Breaks Down Effectiveness Of Trump’s Dealmaking Strategy

Alex Sanz, deputy editor and political director of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, explained Thursday how President-elect Donald Trump's trading strategy has proven effective.

President Trump criticized Panama Canal management on Christmas Day Truth social, suggested US should control Canada and Greenland post. Speaking on “NewsNation Live,” Sanz claimed that Trump's outspoken statements have drawn the “attention” of “world leaders” who are unsure of what actions he will take as president. “If you look at the big picture of what's happening in a lot of posts around Panama, around Canada, around Greenland, there's pressure coming from a lot of different directions, whether it's tariffs, whether it's shipping, whether it's trade. “I think we're looking at the president-elect's views on what the world order should be,” Sanz said. “Up until now we have seen this as a 'let's get everyone to the table' negotiation tactic, but again, as we've seen with his cabinet and parliamentary nominations, it's also a pressure campaign.” This is the reaction of Congress. ”

“While many people, world leaders, and people here in this country are wondering what will happen on Day One, a dialogue is beginning to begin, and this dialogue is now basically in almost every corner of the world. “It’s happening every day,” he continued. “What we're potentially seeing now is a very interesting first few days, first 100 days of what America is going to look like and what kind of policies we're going to see in this second Trump administration. The foundations are being laid for the coming days and beyond.”

NewsNation correspondent Kelly Beeson asked Sanz whether he thought Trump's strategy was “effective” in starting negotiations.

“In some cases, yes, and we've already seen this over the past month or so. [Prime Minister] Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau flew to Mar-a-Lago to meet with President-elect Trump. He heard the message about tariffs,” Sanz said. “He heard the 'Governor Justin Trudeau' abuse going around among the people of South Florida. He heard the message and knew that President-elect Trump was serious about stepping up action and potentially We know that implementing very high tariffs could potentially have a huge economic impact on Canada.”

“So world leaders in North America and indeed around the world are paying attention, because President-elect Trump has said one thing in the past, done another, and sometimes done the same thing. There's always an element of how far he'll go. What does he do or what does he not do? But world leaders have known time and time again that they should take him seriously because this is not a conventional regime,” he added. “And this time, with no chance of re-election within four years, and given his statements about the possibility of pushing the envelope across all aspects of governance, there are plenty of wild cards in store for January. This is one big card.”

The Canadian government tightened its border security system after President Trump threatened in November to impose 25% tariffs on all products from Canada and Mexico unless further restrictions were placed on illegal immigration and drug flows into the United States. It is being strengthened.
