Wu-Tang Clan rapper Method Man will not be arrested for allegedly assaulting a family friend at a Staten Island gym, law enforcement officials announced Friday.
Officials say an investigation revealed that Method Man, whose real name is Clifford Smith, was actually first hit during a fight with Patrick Sokoya, 28, at the Crunch Fitness gym.
Hempstead, 53, a rapper from Long Island, has not filed a counter-complaint against Sokoya and is unlikely to do so in the future, the people said.
Officials said Smith is suspected of punching Sokoya seven times in the face during the scuffle.
The alleged altercation stemmed from Sokoya's relationship with the Tikal rapper's daughter more than 10 years ago.

Officials said Sokoya complained of feeling dizzy but refused treatment at the scene.
A representative for Mr. Smith told the Post in an email: Mr. Smith has categorically denied the reported allegations and has not been subject to any arrest by law enforcement. ”
In addition to his decade-long stint with the Wu-Tang Clan, Smith is also a prolific actor, with over 130 credits on IMDb.
He also sold over 4 million solo albums.
