Wyoming Lawmaker Arrested for DUI

A Wyoming lawmaker, Representative Bill Allemand, has been arrested for drunk driving. He reportedly told police he was drinking to cope with “anxiety.”

Allemand, a Republican, was apprehended in Buffalo at around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday after an officer noticed him driving erratically. According to the police report, there was an unopened beer can in the cup holder next to him, and four more unopened cans were found in the passenger seat. Additionally, a loaded handgun was found near him.

Reports indicate that Allemand admitted to consuming two beers just 15 minutes before the police stopped him. He failed a breathalyzer test, and after his arrest, he struggled to get in and out of the patrol car, requiring assistance from a deputy to avoid falling.

The incident unfolded when Allemand nearly collided with another vehicle, slamming on the brakes just in time to avoid an accident.

He has been charged with driving under the influence and is set for a jury trial on May 1. Allemand has stated he plans to contest the charges, claiming he was wrongly arrested after asserting his civil rights to the police.

Released on bond, he will be subject to monthly breathalyzer tests while his case is ongoing. Allemand has represented Wyoming’s 58th District since 2023 and has actively supported nuclear power projects in the state.
