Xi Jinping Declares Unstoppable Path to China’s Rejuvenation
On Wednesday, President Xi Jinping proclaimed that he couldn’t halt China’s march toward “great rejuvenation.” Using a grand military parade as a backdrop, he alluded to aspirations surrounding Taiwan, showcasing advanced weaponry that could compete with American strength.
Xi underlined Beijing’s commitment to Taiwan, asserting that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) would “firmly protect the sovereignty of the state, unity, and territorial integrity.” He emphasized, “The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation cannot be stopped.”
During the 70-minute event—marking the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II—thousands of troops paraded through Tiananmen Square, flanked by columns of tanks, missile carriers, and drones.
Xi has set a goal for military modernization to coincide with the PLA’s centenary in 2027. Some U.S. officials have cautioned that this timeline might align with Taiwan’s preparations for potential conflict.
Trump Suggests Global Conspiracy
Amid the spectacle, former President Donald Trump claimed that leaders like Putin, Xi, and Kim are conspiring against the United States after observing the military showcase.
China emphasized its nuclear capabilities, displaying a full triad of missiles launched from land, sea, and air. Notably featured was the DF-41 Intercontinental ballistic missile, with a range capable of reaching the U.S. mainland.
Analysts were particularly curious about what seemed to be the new DF-61 Hi-Sonic missile, thought to be designed to challenge U.S. missile defenses. The parade concluded with a display of ballistic missiles and long-range bombers launched from submarines.
The PLA also highlighted its development of stealth drones, like the GJ-11 “Sharp Sword,” along with various other drones. Amphibious assault vehicles hinted at preparations concerning Taiwan, while advancements in cyber and space capabilities showcased intentions that go beyond traditional military engagements.
Xi was observed alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during the procession.
Focused Discussions Post-Parade
After the event, Putin and Kim held a two-hour closed-door meeting, with reports indicating that Putin expressed gratitude to Kim for backing Russia in its conflict with Ukraine.
Notably, around 20 world leaders attended the parade, including Iranian President Maud Pezeshkian and Serbian President Alexandervik, as well as Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. Their presence stood out, especially since many Western allies opted to remain disengaged.
In response to the display, Taiwan’s President Leichete dismissed it as merely a “psychological threat.” The show of military might suggests that China is intent on matching, if not surpassing, U.S. military capabilities, especially following America’s own impressive military exhibition celebrating its 250th anniversary.
