BALTIMORE — Wednesday marks a week since DJ LeMahieu was out of action for at least a week to receive treatment for a non-displaced foot fracture.
The Yankees’ veteran infielder has not yet resumed baseball activities, but he may do so soon.
“Not yet, but I know he came in feeling good today,” manager Aaron Boone said before the Yankees’ 2-0 win over the Orioles at Camden Yards on Wednesday night. Told. “A week? So, I’m going to report here today. [Thursday] I think that’s probably starting to happen. ”
LeMahieu, 35, began rehabbing on April 23, but his rehab lasted only one inning as he was sidelined with soreness in his right foot.
An MRI scan two days later showed that the swelling had returned.
Even if LeMahieu resumes baseball activities, Boone indicated he won’t be starting from scratch.
“Hopefully in a few days we’ll start talking about rehab assignments,” Boone said.
Boone also said he does not believe LeMahieu will need further testing before beginning his return.
“Even if that’s been the case in the past, that’s an acceptable thing to do at this point,” Boone said. “The swelling, but he obviously did something there that caused a little bit of swelling. I don’t think we need to see a better picture at this point.”
Gleyber Torres was starting to find some traction offensively last week — going 10-for-32 (.313 batting average) over his last seven games — but he still had no home runs through his first 31 games and entered Wednesday. Has entered.
“I do think it’s trickling down,” Boone said. “You always hear me say that early season players, whether they’re rookies or All-Star veterans, we want them to get their first hit in the first week.

“I don’t think it’s draining him when you’re trying to break a lead, but it does linger in the back of your mind a little bit sometimes. You can’t chase it, for sure. His power… It allows you to do that. Usually the pitches have to work together. It’s about going up there and putting yourself in a good position to deal with the pitches and it’s something that happens naturally. is.”
John Barty (left groin strain) did not play in his originally scheduled third rehabilitation game on Wednesday after his hip was secured earlier in the day.
“I don’t think it’s a big problem, but I think he’ll play.” [Thursday] Instead,” Boone said. “They just said, ‘Let’s just hang in there for today.'”
If Berti plays Thursday, Boone said it could be his last rehab game.
Reliever Nick Vardy (right hip inflammation) pitched a bullpen session against Double-A Somerset on Tuesday that went well and is “working as hard as he can” to return, Boone said. The Yankees will likely have Birdie pitch in a rehab game to make sure he’s okay and has properly recovered from the trip.
“I hope that happens soon,” Boone said.
Alex Verdugo (paternity list) is scheduled to fly to Baltimore late Wednesday night and could be back in the lineup for Thursday’s series finale, depending on his travel.
