Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton hits a laser during spring practice

Notable items during the Yankees’ spring training practice Tuesday in Tampa:

still have it

Newcomer Giancarlo Stanton still has some strength left in him.

The slimmed-down DH has become a Statcast favorite year after year for his high exit velocity, hitting a rocket into the right-center field wall in live batting practice with right-hander Dennis Santana.

Base running drill Giancarlo Stanton also hit a hard line drive rocket into the wall during a spring training practice. Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post

noise violation

Santana showed some signs early in camp, but a loud collision from Stanton and Alex Verdugo during the second innings of practice put him in an unexpected situation.

It caught my eye

Hal Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman appeared on the field during a break in a live batting practice session and had a conversation with their new superstar, Juan Soto.

That relationship will be in the spotlight this year as the Yankees look to make a strong impression on Soto, who will be a free agent next offseason.

Wednesday schedule

Gerrit Cole will take live batting practice on the second day of full-team practice.
