Carlos Rodon gets a chance to start over in Game 1 of the ALCS.
The Yankees selected Rodon, who failed to start in the fourth inning of Game 2 of the ALDS, as the starting pitcher for Monday's series opener against the Guardians.
Manager Aaron Boone indicated Sunday that Gerrit Cole was scheduled to start Game 2 and that there had been internal discussions about whether Rodon or Clark Schmidt would start in Game 1, but the final decision The Yankees decided to keep Rodon in the rotation rather than bring him back for Game 3. That would have given the left-handed pitcher nine days off instead of six.
Schmidt will play in Game 3, followed by Lewis Gil in Game 4.

In the ALDS, Rodon got off to a good start against the Royals, but ran out of gas after giving up four runs in four innings.
He was on fire in the first inning when he huddled in the raucous crowd and struck out the side, but said he wanted to control his emotions better Sunday against the Guardians.
