Players from the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds performed a traditional rendition of the national anthem before their game on Thursday afternoon, July 4th.

A total of four players were involved in the stalemate, but it was eventually narrowed down to two players — Yankees Ian Hamilton and Cody Poteet — and one — Reds Graham Ashcraft. Ashcraft’s teammate, Carson Spears, returned to the dugout.

The players all stood outside the dugout with their hats on their chests, but New York’s recent struggle to win anything was also evident in the little games they were playing.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone decided he couldn’t take it anymore and ordered Hamilton and Poteet back to the dugout. Ashcraft, ecstatic, returned to the visiting dugout to cheers and applause from his teammates.

Cincinnati came into the game hoping to sweep the Yankees. New York had lost seven of its last nine games since a June 23 loss to the Atlanta Braves.

Fortunately, the team is doing well so far this year with 54 wins, but if any team is in dire need of an All-Star break right now, it’s New York.
