Luke Pettitte Drafted by Yankees

Luke Pettitte, the son of renowned Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, was picked by the New York Yankees during the eighth round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday.

A standout two-way player at Dallas Baptist University, Luke earned recognition with selections to the All-Central Region (ABCA) Second Team and the All-Conference USA First Team this season.

Luke shares his father’s pitching background but throws with his right hand. In the 2026 season, he boasted a .341 batting average, hitting 16 home runs and driving in 48 runs across 186 at-bats, which earned him the Conference USA Hitter of the Week title in early May.

On the mound, he struck out 56 batters over 48 innings in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, achieving a respectable 3.19 ERA.

While he won’t be able to pitch in 2026 due to Tommy John surgery, he remains capable of hitting. It will be interesting to see how the Yankees plan to utilize him, especially since he is noted for his pitching accuracy.

Andy Pettitte, a three-time All-Star and five-time World Series champion, was drafted in the 22nd round out of Deer Park High School in Texas in 1990. He spent significant time, 15 out of 18 seasons, on the Yankees roster and is considered one of the premier left-handed starters in baseball history, finishing his career with a 3.85 ERA and 2,448 strikeouts, famed for his sharp 12-6 curveball.

Currently, Andy serves as a special advisor for the Yankees and has coached Luke as well as other youth players.
