A shootout in Yellowstone National Park left one suspect dead and a park ranger injured, the National Park Service (NPS) said in a statement Thursday afternoon.
The deceased suspect, whose identity has not been released, was making threats with a firearm at the park’s Canyon Village complex sometime Wednesday night into the early hours of Thursday morning, and rangers were called to the scene, the National Park Service said.
A shootout ensued between the suspect and Rangers, ultimately resulting in the suspect’s death.

One Yellowstone Police ranger was injured and was in stable condition and being treated at a nearby area hospital, the National Park Service said.

The area surrounding the Canyon Lodge complex remains closed for the investigation. The complex is located in northwestern Wyoming and is popular with visitors to the historic park.
The FBI is leading the investigation with the assistance of special agents from the National Park Service.
No additional information about the incident has been released.
