A mayoral candidate in Mexico has tragically become the second politician to lose their life in Veracruz ahead of the upcoming June 1 election.
Yesenia Lala Gutierrez, representing the Governance Party, was fatally shot on Sunday while engaging with her supporters in Texistepec, a small town located in Veracruz.
Unfortunately, Gutiérrez’s daughter was also a victim in this horrific incident, as confirmed by Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle on Monday, alongside comments from Mexican Morena Party leader Claudia Sheinbaum.
This unsettling pattern continues, as just under two weeks later, another member of the Governance Party, Germán Anuar Valencia, was shot at his campaign headquarters in Coxquihui, a northern town in Veracruz.
In a separate but equally concerning report, two federal agents were killed in a different area of Veracruz on Monday.
Governor Nahle expressed, during a press conference, that “no position is worth dying for,” indicating a commitment to seek justice for the families affected by these tragedies.
