Tributes to Charlie Kirk Following His Tragic Death
Vice President JD Vance has shared heartfelt memories of Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist who was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University. In a lengthy post on X, Vance described his late friend as a person of remarkable “courage,” “faith,” and unwavering loyalty.
Kirk, who co-founded Turning Point USA, was not only Vance’s best friend but also a significant political ally. Their relationship evolved over the years, beginning with their initial skepticism toward Donald Trump in 2016 and reaching peaks during the 2024 campaign.
Vance’s poignant reflections highlighted Kirk’s meaningful impact on the conservative movement, particularly in shaping the Trump Vance team. “Charlie had an unquenchable thirst for ideas and was always open to learning,” Vance remarked. “We both harbored doubts about Trump in 2016, yet we ultimately recognized him as the figure who could shift American politics away from the grip of globalism.”
Vance recalled how Kirk was among the first to reach out when he considered running for the Senate in early 2021, offering guidance ranging from fundraising strategies to grassroots mobilization.
As a longtime advocate for young conservatives, Kirk was viewed as instrumental in President Trump’s decision-making, particularly regarding the selection of a running mate in 2024.
Reflecting on their deep bond, Vance recalled how Kirk was consistently there for him during his Vice Presidential campaign, offering encouragement and keeping in touch with their families. “He truly cared,” Vance noted.
Vance also emphasized Kirk’s strong faith, recalling their discussions about religion. “Charlie had a genuine love for God and yearned to understand Him better,” he shared.
A memory Vance recounted involved a moment of kindness from Kirk back in 2017, which sparked their enduring friendship. Vance appreciated Kirk’s loyalty and described him as someone you could trust to keep your confidences.
During a recent conversation with President Trump, Vance spoke about Kirk, who he confirmed was deeply devoted to his family, a sentiment echoed by the former president.
Vance learned of Kirk’s tragic shooting during a meeting in the West Wing through messages from colleagues expressing their prayers for him. “God may not have answered those prayers, but I trust Charlie has found peace,” he said, envisioning Kirk speaking on behalf of his loved ones in heaven.
Vance ended his tribute with a message of love and remembrance, stating, “You ran a good race, my friend. We have it from here.” Charlie Kirk once hoped to be remembered for his courage and faith; those who mourn him today are carrying that legacy forward.
