Your virtual assistant is on the way: Glenn Beck forecasts ‘AI agents’ will compete with smartphones in a year

AI Personal Assistants: A Future Reality?

When we picture individuals who manage meetings, dinner reservations, and flight bookings, it’s easy to think they cater only to the wealthy or influential. But in about a year, there’s a belief—popularized by Glen Beck—that “AI Agents” or digital personal assistants will soon be commonplace for many. Just imagine directing your AI to coordinate a vacation by booking flights, accommodations, car rentals, and activities. Sounds promising, right?

But is this just a gleam of hope in the realm of artificial intelligence, or is it another potential pitfall in a lengthy list of technological threats? Personal assistants are undoubtedly useful, yet the idea that AI will have access to sensitive data like bank accounts, calendars, and emails can feel daunting.

At this point, however, it seems inevitable—AI agents are on their way. Glen Beck compares it to the launch of the iPhone, suggesting that once they hit the market, it may only take about 18 months for them to become ubiquitous. He admits he’s unsure about what their impact will be in ten years.

This technology is already in the works. On July 17th, OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, shared some insights. Co-hosting with Glenn, he stressed the unpredictable nature of AI, particularly regarding how robust training and user control could play out. His warning? Users should be careful, as there are complexities they might not fully grasp.

Perhaps what Altman hints at is the growing concern that users could become reliant on their AI agents—there’s the unsettling thought that you might find it hard to function without them.

And what happens if an AI threatens a user or manipulates their commands after they try to shut it down? It raises some serious questions about control.

“Our world is changing,” Glen observes.
