Zelensky Shares Positive Experience with Vance in Their First Meeting Since Oval Office Disagreement

Vance and Zelensky Hold Productive Meeting in Rome

Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Voldimir Zelensky had what was described as a “good meeting” during their first public encounter post the chaotic office explosion.

The two leaders met at Villa Taverna, the official residence of Vance and the Italian ambassador, shortly after Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration mass in Vatican City. They were accompanied by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Andry Yamach, who heads the Ukrainian president’s office.

During their discussion, Zelensky expressed his hope for the US to impose stricter sanctions on Russia and highlighted efforts to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Zelensky later shared photos of the meeting, showing officials from Kyiv and Washington gathered around a rectangular table, smiling. Reports indicate the meeting lasted about 40 minutes.

Zelensky remarked on X, “We discussed the negotiations in Istanbul where the Russians sent a low-level delegation of non-decisive manufacturers.”

He further noted, “We also covered topics related to Russia, trade between our nations, defense collaboration, the current battlefield situation, and the need for sanctions during future prisoner exchanges.”

Zelensky’s tweet mentioned the discussions in detail, reiterating Ukraine’s readiness for meaningful diplomacy.
