Zelensky: Trump Ukraine statements are ‘election messages’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he considered former President Trump's comments about resolving the Ukraine war to be a “campaign message.”

in Interview In an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria, Zelensky was asked what he thought about Trump's claim that if he were president he would resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours.

“I don't understand it today, because I don't know the details of what he means, what it all means,” Zelenskiy replied. “So my position is [is] that [it is a] “It's election time and an election message is an election message.”

Zelensky said he thought Trump's election messaging was “not very realistic” at times.

The Ukrainian president and President Trump have publicly exchanged views about Trump's comments.

The former president said in March 2023 that if he won in November, he would work with Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to “solve” the war in a day.

Trump has touted his relationship with Putin as a way to end the war, but Putin recently joked that he predicted Trump's opponent, Vice President Harris, would win.

Zelensky said he has a plan for Ukraine to win the war and rebuild once it ends, and that he plans to share it with Biden, Harris and President Trump.

“It may sound too ambitious to some, but it's an important plan for us,” he said. I said last month.

Zelensky told Zakaria he had a “good conversation” with Trump over the phone about two months ago.

“He will be very cooperative,” Zelensky said. “He understands how difficult it is to survive during a war and he will do everything to strengthen Ukraine.”

During a debate with Harris earlier this month, Trump repeatedly rejected comments he made about wanting Ukraine to win the war with Russia.
