New Leadership at Meta
A former official from President Donald Trump’s administration is set to take over as president and vice chairman at Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. This shift means a figure from Trump’s presidency will now lead one of the largest social media platforms.
Mark Zuckerberg shared the news on Monday, announcing that 52-year-old Dina Powell McCormick has been appointed to this role. She previously held the position of Vice President for National Security Strategy from March 2017 until January 2018.
In her personal life, Powell McCormick was once married to Richard Powell, who is in PR and communications, but she is now married to Republican Senator Dave McCormick from Pennsylvania. Born in Egypt, she also speaks Arabic, adding an interesting layer to her profile.
Interestingly, during her time with President Trump, she gained the nickname “Miss Fix-It.” She even advised Ivanka Trump informally during the transition into Trump’s first term. Before her stint in the Trump administration, Powell McCormick served as a Senior Advisor in George W. Bush’s White House.
Her professional background includes 16 years at Goldman Sachs, where she achieved senior executive roles and was a partner. Additionally, she was Vice Chairman and President, and also served as Head of Global Client Services at BDT & MSD Partners.
On top of her corporate achievements, she is a fellow at Harvard University and previously taught at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, demonstrating her deep connection to both academia and finance.
President Trump expressed his gratitude for the appointment in a post on Truth Social, calling her an “excellent choice” and praising her impressive background in service. He emphasized her capabilities, noting that she served the administration with “strength and distinction.”
Zuckerberg also conveyed high expectations, stating that McCormick brings a wealth of experience in finance, government, and economic development. He mentioned she would be actively involved in Meta’s strategies, especially in collaborating with governments to advance the company’s AI initiatives and infrastructure.
It seems there’s a lot of optimism regarding this new appointment, as both Zuckerberg and Trump foresee great potential in McCormick leading the way forward for Meta.
