Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg visited the White House Thursday to discuss Meta's role in supporting the Trump administration, the company confirmed.
“Mark Zuckerberg was in the White House today to discuss how Meta can help the administration protect and advance American technological leadership overseas,” Meta spokesperson said. Mann Andy Stone wrote on Social Platform X on Thursday.
White House officials confirmed that Zuckerberg was in the White House but did not provide further details. It was unclear whether Zuckerberg had met President Trump.
The meeting comes just weeks after Zuckerberg appeared to be on the presidential track as Trump attended Trump's inauguration at the Capitol.
In a revenue call late last month, Zuckerberg said investors 2025 will be “a big year to redefine relations with the government.”
“We are now proud of our big companies, and we have a US administration that prioritizes the victory of American technology and protects value and interests overseas,” Zuckerberg continued.
“And I'm optimistic about the progress and innovations that this can unlock,” he added.
Zuckerberg and Trump have been in a tumultuous relationship in recent years, but the president warmed himself to high-tech leaders in the months leading up to his re-election.
Some Democrats and other observers have denounced Zuckerberg and other technical executives, and have tried to gain favours from legal or policy moves that are favorable to the president.
Later last month, Mehta agreed to a $25 million settlement with Trump in a 2021 lawsuit against the company on January 6, 2021, on a decision to suspend his accounts in the wake of the Capitol rebellion.
Earlier last month, Meta eliminated fact-checking programs with a sharp reversal from social media companies. The program, launched in 2016, was often promoted by Meta as a way to prevent misinformation and misinformation on its platform.
Trump suggested that the fact-checking changes had something to do with him, and told reporters earlier this month that he had “probably” decided in response to his previous threats to Zuckerberg and the company.
