Conor McGregor suffers leg injury in fast defeat to Max Holloway in UFC 329 and faces boos from the crowd

McGregor’s Health Woes Continue

LAS VEGAS — Conor McGregor’s struggles with health are becoming hard to ignore.

There’s really no other way to put it.

During the opening moments of his fight against Max Holloway, McGregor launched a head kick and landed awkwardly. Almost immediately, his knee seemed to buckle and slip out of place multiple times. Eventually, the fight was stopped by a doctor.

This outcome might be one of the most disheartening finishes in UFC history, with lots of boos directed at McGregor from fans after the fight wrapped up.

A source indicated that the injury wasn’t something he had been dealing with before. McGregor was apparently planning to perform a jumping head kick during the bout.

He practiced this kick for weeks and had been successful in executing it numerous times leading up to the match.

However, he went down awkwardly and found himself in a brief grappling situation with Holloway, who took advantage and landed strikes from the top position.

In a surprising moment, McGregor didn’t get up when Holloway called for him to rise, leaving the crowd holding its breath. I couldn’t help but hope it wasn’t a repeat of his previous injury from almost five years ago.

Eventually, McGregor managed to get to his feet, showing clear signs of pain and struggling to put weight on his right leg.

When his knees buckled once more, McGregor realized there was no point in continuing and raised his hands in defeat.

Holloway even informed referee Mike Beltran that McGregor was completely unable to continue.

Beltran signaled to stop the fight, and McGregor left the Octagon quickly, not saying a word to UFC commentator Joe Rogan.

“I’d like to talk to him,” Rogan mentioned as McGregor left.

Inside the cage, Holloway asked for a rematch against McGregor and encouraged fans to support him, though he faced boos from frustrated spectators who felt cheated out of a true fight.

“What can I say? I think I made him weak in the knees,” he stated.

This event puts a significant strain on both the UFC and McGregor. His fighting career seems uncertain, if not entirely over.

McGregor has one bout remaining on his UFC contract, and if he has indeed injured his knee ligaments, his recovery time will likely be extensive.

As he exited, he looked visibly upset, while fans appeared to place the blame on him following the injury.

There’s never a dull moment with McGregor, but now he faces yet another challenging road to recovery.
