Incident in Brooklyn Involves Young Boy and Robber
A disturbing incident unfolded in Brooklyn when a man, armed with a knife, threatened 10-year-old Amir Nuru and coerced him into giving up $20 from his piggy bank. This occurred near Amir’s home in Crown Heights after he had returned from school.
The young boy was understandably frightened as the stranger pursued him, demanding money and weapons. In a moment of fear, Amir rushed into his house, retrieved the cash from his piggy bank, and handed it over.
Amir’s mother, Edite, recounted how the robber chased her son to their front door. She mentioned that Amir, noticing the weapon, felt he had no choice but to comply with the demands. “He just wanted to get away safely,” Edite explained.
At the time of the incident, Edite was busy with a phone exchange and didn’t see what was happening right away. This incident occurred just a week after Amir had been allowed to start walking home alone, and now she feels it is necessary to accompany him until the perpetrator is apprehended.
“He’s disappointed that he can’t go to school by himself anymore,” she noted, reflecting on the disruption caused by the alarming situation.
Amir shared his thoughts with reporters, expressing his sense of helplessness. “If he has a knife, I have nothing. He’s bigger than me,” he said.
Meanwhile, the NYPD is actively seeking the suspect. In a gesture of support, Vice Mayor Kazu Daughtry gifted Amir an iPad and replaced the money he lost. Amir usually earns his allowance by maintaining good grades and doing chores.
“What kind of person would take money from a 10-year-old?” Daughtry questioned, voicing his outrage.
Edite, who has lived in Crown Heights for two decades, expressed how unsettling this experience has been. “It’s shocking to think that he can’t even walk to school safely during the day anymore,” she said, adding, “I used to feel secure here, but now I’m not so sure.”
