13 adults, 3 children rescued on Arizona hiking trail in 108-degree heat

A family reunion in Arizona turned into tragedy when 13 people (including three children who were hospitalized) had to be rescued from a hiking trail in hot conditions. According to the post: on the Scottsdale Fire Department’s Facebook page.

The group of hikers, who were in town for a family reunion, started out on the Gateway Loop Trail in Scottsdale, Arizona, at 7:30 a.m. Friday.

A heat warning was issued for the area as temperatures reached 108 degrees.

Within three hours, more than 65 firefighters were deployed to the mountain rescue.

“The family was found in a sink area under a tree several miles off the trail,” the fire department said.

A 10-year-old child was treated and taken to a local hospital for examination.

The boy was in “excellent condition” by Friday evening, according to Folio.

Two children, all aged 1, were taken to a local hospital with “symptoms of heat stroke,” according to the fire department.

Rescuers used a “big wheel” stretcher to move the woman off the road.
