15-year-old confirmed as suspect in Seattle shooting that left 3 dead, second potential shooter still missing.

Tragedy Strikes Seattle Food Festival

At a recent food festival in Seattle, an unfortunate incident unfolded on Sunday night, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and leaving four others injured. The shooting occurred at the “Bite of Seattle” festival, located near the iconic Space Needle.

During a press conference, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson provided updates on the situation, revealing that the suspected shooter is only 15 years old. This teen was taken into custody and is facing serious charges, including firearms violations and first-degree assault. Wilson suggested that the young suspect was likely the one who opened fire into the crowd, although the investigation is still in its early stages.

Wilson also mentioned that the police officers on duty at the festival responded swiftly to the chaos, engaging one of the potential assailants but did not discharge their weapons. According to her, the violence erupted following an exchange of gunfire between two people near the Seattle Center Armory.

“The Seattle Police Department has detained a 15-year-old juvenile in connection with the shooting,” Wilson stated, emphasizing the seriousness of the incident.

The initial reports confirm the identities of the victims: a 19-year-old male and a 44-year-old male, both pronounced dead at the scene, along with a 56-year-old female who later died at a hospital. The conditions of the other victims vary, with one being a two-year-old boy who is expected to recover.

  • A 40-year-old female suffered minor injuries but opted not to be admitted to the hospital;
  • A 39-year-old female was treated and subsequently released;
  • A 27-year-old male also received treatment for a gunshot wound and was released.

While seven victims were initially reported, a separate individual sought medical attention at another location, raising the total to eight, hinting at the broader impact of the event.

“In Seattle, gun violence is complicated by the existence of small groups at odds with one another,” noted Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes, reflecting on the demographics of those involved in such incidents.

Officials are currently pursuing leads on a second suspect and have encouraged witnesses to step forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.

On Monday morning, news reports confirmed that, beyond the tragic loss of life, the injuries sustained by others include a mix of serious and minor cases. First responders acted quickly, providing CPR and first aid at the scene.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy. I’m deeply saddened by these events,” shared Assistant Seattle Police Chief Tyrone Davis. He noted that such incidents have been rare at the festival in recent years and praised the officers for their prompt action to limit further harm.

While the investigation continues, Mayor Wilson emphasized the urgent need to address gun violence in Seattle and the country at large, mentioning recent spikes in violence. The Space Needle has temporarily closed as authorities work to thoroughly examine the situation.

Videos from the event captured moments of panic as attendees sought shelter from the gunfire, illustrating the chaos that unfolded during what was meant to be a joyful celebration.
