2 small planes collide in midair at regional Arizona airport, leaving 2 dead

At least two people were killed Wednesday in an airborne collision between two small planes at an Arizona regional airport, authorities said.

The Marana Police Station said the fatal collision occurred at Marana Regional Airport, northwest of Tucson.

Authorities confirmed that at least two people were killed, but noted that details are limited as the first responders are still working on the scene.

The Domestic Transport Safety Board (NTSB) identified the planes that collided in the air as Cessna 172 and Lankaa 360 MK II (both single-engine aircraft). The agency said it was investigating the incident.

Information was not immediately provided about the victim or how the conflict occurred.

Authorities said the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is also responding to the incident.

The collision is the latest in recent trends in air travel accidents in North America.
