Two teenagers in San Francisco, California, reportedly died after attempting a social media challenge called “Surfing” on top of a moving train.
Individual incidents are recorded in the following documents: KTVU-TV reported.
On Sunday morning, around 9 a.m., a young man died after falling off a Bay Area Rapid Transit train while attempting to board a train from San Francisco to Millbrae.
Gateway Charter School in San Francisco confirmed the student’s death without identifying the teenager.
Interim Executive Director Aaron Watson said in a statement: “On Sunday, we received the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of our students. First and foremost, our condolences go out to the student’s family.”
“Any time there is any loss in a school community, it is understandably a traumatic event for families, classmates, teachers, and staff,” he added. “We remain in contact with families and are taking steps to provide support and resources to our students as we work as a community through this difficult time.”
The victim’s mother, who did not want to be identified, told the San Francisco Standard that she gained access to the Instagram account where the boy was posting the videos, but was unable to stop him.
The second incident was reported by Marina Baran. who said In the Standard, her son Daniel Baran fell while surfing BART and was hit by a train and killed.
“My son tried it on January 29th and fell and got hit by a train,” she wrote on Instagram to discourage others from taking on the dangerous challenge. “There was a funeral yesterday. Your parents are lucky to have you alive.”
“Your life doesn’t deserve a 15-second video you post on Instagram for influence.”
One person, who identified himself as a transport worker, made an impassioned appeal to young people to stop replicating the dangerous challenge.
“No one who works in transit wants to be involved in that. Calling your loved one, your family, telling them your body is being dismembered into 15 different parts on the tracks. No one wants to be told off. No train driver deserves to be bothered by this. “The result of someone’s stupidity, and the guilt that comes with it,” read a message on Reddit. .
“No parent would lose a child to something this terrible,” the official added. “There’s a reason why trains have interior seats. When you’re on a train, that’s where you’re supposed to be. Not on the roof, not on the coupler in the back, not hanging off the side. “Your life is not worth 15 seconds.” “I’m talking about the videos you post on Instagram for influence. Please, don’t ‘surf the train.’ That’s not cool.”
