2,000 Declare Their Faith at the Location of Charlie Kirk's Assassination While Greg Laurie Shares a Message of Hope

Pastor Speaks of Hope at Service Following Tragedy

At an event in Orem, Utah, Greg Laurie spoke to a filled arena, reflecting on the need for hope found in Jesus, particularly in light of the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk two months ago. Laurie emphasized that even in tragedy, good can emerge.

Laurie brought the Harvest Crusade to Utah Valley University after local pastors expressed their desire for an event like this. There’s a sense in the community that many are open to the message of faith since the untimely passing of Kirk, a conservative commentator with strong Christian values. Originally scheduled for 2027, the crusade was moved up to this year. The atmosphere was further energized by performances from Phil Wickham and Chris Tomlin during the musical portion of the service.

“You don’t have to clean up your life to come to God,” Laurie told the gathering. “When you come to God, God will cleanse your life. Jesus says, ‘Come to me, all you who are weighed down by your sins, and I will give you rest.’

At the conclusion of the service, more than 1,000 attendees, most of them young, professed their faith in Christ, with another 1,000 doing so online.

Laurie mentioned the possibility that Kirk’s death could be a turning point, asserting that future generations may see this as a pivotal moment in many lives turning toward Christ. He shared biblical examples, like Joseph’s story from the Old Testament, where he was wronged by his brothers yet chose forgiveness, illustrating how evil can lead to good.

Despite the tragedy surrounding Kirk’s death, Laurie noted that God is using this moment to inspire hope, particularly among younger generations. There’s been an uptick in Bible sales, indicating that Gen Z is searching for something meaningful.

“This is your moment tonight,” he urged. “Don’t miss it. If you want a relationship with God, stand up and walk to the front.” This call saw hundreds respond, dedicating their lives to Christ.

In reflecting on the evening, Laurie remarked, “What a night it was. I won’t forget.” He described the experience as a genuine movement of God.
