2,000 immigrants from Southern Mexico join caravan in hope of entering US despite Trump’s orders

A caravan of about 2,000 migrants from southern Mexico hoping to enter the United States has formed despite President Donald Trump's re-election.

President Trump has included a number of orders related to border security in a number of executive orders he has signed since taking the oath of office on Monday. The Department of Homeland Security also sent a memo updating its guidance on deportation policies.

“It's very sad because our goal is to get in. It breaks my heart to know that they won't let us in.”

Men, women and children were reportedly marching in a caravan in Tapachula, a city in southern Mexico bordering Guatemala.

One of the migrants in the caravan said: quotation Fox News argued that President Trump's order could not contradict the United Nations' order.

Arkin Torres, from Colombia, said: “Even if Donald Trump comes to power, he will not be able to surpass the United Nations, do you understand? Unite as one.”

Under the Biden administration, some immigrants used the CBP One app to apply to enter the United States, but the app was shut down by the Trump administration.

“Well, it's very sad because our goal is to get into the country, but it breaks my heart to know that they won't let us in,” Cuban immigrant Maria Reidis told Reuters. “But if we don't get through this CBP One application, he's going to set us up another path and we're going to get in there.”

The caravan could reach the border in about 16 days.
