New reports indicate that a 24-year-old woman, suspected to be involved in sex work, is under investigation regarding the brutal murder of an elderly man in San Francisco. The victim, identified as 69-year-old John Tyler, was discovered in his apartment by a maintenance worker on May 6th.
Tyler was found in his bed, having reportedly suffered multiple injuries. Autopsy results revealed he had 16 defensive wounds across his hands, head, and face, along with severe fractures to his skull and chest.
In the course of the investigation, police recovered a hatchet, a bloodstained knife, several cell phones, and blue latex gloves from the scene.
Surveillance footage captured Tyler entering his apartment on May 3rd with a young woman who was wearing a surgical mask. It appears that she was the only person to leave the apartment until Tyler’s body was discovered, with the woman departing the next morning at 9 AM.
The apartment manager informed the media that Tyler frequently brought young women to his home, and she suspected some of them might be engaging in prostitution. According to San Francisco Police, DNA evidence collected from the gloves and hatchet matches that of women whose driver’s license photos resemble the woman seen in the video.
The woman was arrested in Auckland on July 10th, suspected of murder, but was released without charges shortly after.
Currently, the investigation into Tyler’s death is ongoing. A statement from a public defense attorney mentioned that while evidence suggests an arrest could occur, a thorough investigation is crucial before deciding on any charges.
