26-year-old from Scarsdale faces charges for stabbing and killing mother at her home — first homicide in the NYC suburbs in ten years

A man from Scarsdale is facing serious charges after allegedly stabbing and beating his mother to death in their home, which is valued at nearly $2.5 million, located in Tonytown. This incident marks the first murder reported in this affluent suburb in about ten years.

Chester Green, 26, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his mother, Marian Green, aged 71. The events unfolded earlier this week at their residence in the Fox Meadow area, as confirmed by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.

According to prosecutors, Chester reportedly attacked Marian, inflicting multiple stab wounds and blunt force injuries between Sunday and Tuesday.

The police discovered Chester standing outside the upscale home on Butler Road, after they received a call for help. Upon entering the home, they found Marian deceased inside. Reports indicate that Chester was taken to White Plains Hospital following the incident.

The motive behind this tragic and unsettling attack remains unclear at this time.

Local reports describe Marian as a widow who shared her home with her adult son on a tranquil street lined with trees. She was well-known in the community for her advocacy for children with disabilities and served as the chair of the village’s Disability Advisory Committee.

Marian was also a familiar face at village board meetings, where she frequently pushed for improved accessibility, including better sidewalks and a local swimming pool.

Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace expressed her shock, stating, “Like everyone in this county, I am shocked by the horrific death of Marian Greene and the manner in which she was killed. The family relationship between the victim and the suspect in this case only makes this tragedy worse.” She assured that her office would strive for justice through the prosecution.

Scarsdale has been ranked as the wealthiest suburb in the United States for three consecutive years, with a striking median income of $612,591 annually. Reports indicate that violent crimes, particularly murder, are extremely uncommon in this affluent area, with the last known murder occurring in 2016. In that case, pediatrician Robin Goldman’s husband was sentenced for taking her life while she was in the shower.

Chester Green was arraigned on Wednesday afternoon and has been ordered to remain in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 5.
