Trump took his time choosing his running mate, but when he finally announced his choice of Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, “the reaction was incredible,” says Dave Rubin.
But what many may not know is that Vance was not a Trump supporter in 2016.
So how did a man who not so long ago give up on Donald Trump become a well-received running mate for Trump?
Dave Rubin and Alene Wexler discuss three characteristics of JD that have resonated with Trump supporters.
Did J.D. Vance win the support of Trump voters?Youtube
1. He knows what Trump represents to Americans.
“President Trump represents America’s last, best hope for restoring what, if lost, may never be found again,” Vance told a cheering crowd during a speech at the Republican National Convention.
Dave loves this powerful sentence because it captures the broad American resurgence of unity in freedom.
While “not everyone can get what they want” under Trump, Trump advocates for the preservation of true Americanism — something “precious and good and rare” that, as Vance points out, if lost to the far left, may never be regained.
2. He is the product of the American dream.
The American Dream is what makes this country different and better than other countries. The idea that one’s destiny is determined by their work ethic, not the social class they were born into, is woven into the very fabric of our nation.
But the radical left’s relentless push for socialist principles threatens the American Dream, and who better to fight for its survival than J.D. Vance, a working-class man born into poverty who wrote a best-selling memoir, became a senator, and is now Donald Trump’s running mate?
“He’s the American dream,” Wexler said. “Here’s a guy who grew up in Appalachia during the opioid crisis, moved to Ohio, and now is a vice presidential candidate. It’s incredible, but it’s amazing.”
3. Gain support from independents
That Vance was nominated as Trump’s running mate after denounced him in 2016 is a testament to his humility and his potential to rally former Trump supporters around the Trump base.
“I’m glad he was never a Trump supporter in 2016,” Wexler told Dave. “When people are willing to change their minds… that It’s something that people can relate to.”
MAGA members aren’t exactly upset that more people are wearing red hats.
