3 thugs try to rob California tobacco shop, but armed owner opens fire with lethal consequences

An armed store owner in California shot and killed one of three armed men who tried to rob his tobacco store Tuesday morning.

KTLA Television report Around 9:00 a.m., three thugs entered the Classic Tobacco Shop on the corner of Firestone Boulevard and Studebaker Road in Norwalk.

He was acting in self-defense.

The group was armed, and the store owner was also armed and opened fire on them, hitting one of them in the chest.

The three reportedly jumped into a getaway car and attempted to flee, but the car became trapped in a parking lot.

The robbery suspect, who had been shot in the chest, was later found by police in a nearby alley and taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The two other suspects tried to flee into a residential area on Elmcroft Street near Lakeside Middle School, where school was not in session at the time, according to KTLA.

Police set up a cordoned off area and, with the help of a SWAT team, were able to take the two suspects into custody around 11:30 a.m.

The store owner was not injured and told investigators he acted in self-defense.
