36 Unauthorized Commercial Truck Drivers Arrested in Yuma Border Patrol Area in 5 Days

Border Patrol’s Targeted Operation in Yuma Leads to Multiple Arrests

During a five-day enforcement initiative, Border Patrol agents in the Yuma area apprehended 52 undocumented individuals during immigration checks on major highways in Arizona. Notably, 36 of these individuals were found operating commercial vehicles, and they held licenses from states with sanctuary policies.

The enforcement operation was carried out by local officials in mid-May, as highlighted in their social media announcements. A spokesperson from the U.S. Department of Transportation expressed support for the actions taken by the Yuma sector, commenting that it underscores a persistent issue regarding safety on the roads, particularly under the current administration.

According to authorities, the detained truck drivers hailed from various countries, including El Salvador, India, Mexico, Turkey, and Russia. Many were operating with expired work permits that were initially issued during the Biden administration, which have since lapsed.

In a statement, a Department of Transportation representative said, “We are proud to support Border Patrol efforts in eliminating these risky foreign drivers from our roads.” They also emphasized the need for collaboration between state, local law enforcement, and the Department of Homeland Security to mitigate the potential risks to public safety.

Additionally, this week Yuma officials reported the apprehension of an Indian national named Magandeep Singh. During a routine traffic stop and immigration inspection, local authorities discovered that Singh was on an international watch list, with suspicions surrounding a murder charge. Following the confirmation of the arrest notice, he was set for deportation.

After processing, Border Patrol agents handed Singh over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for further actions. ICE will coordinate with international law enforcement to facilitate his transfer.
