A 69-year-old man allegedly stabbed a man in the buttocks after a leg press run-in at LA Fitness in Austin, Texas, on Friday.

The victim told detectives he was waiting to do leg presses when John Makinson told him to “find something else to do.” KVUE-TV reported. After completing the leg press, Makinson walked to the locker room area and the victim began using the leg press, police said.
KVUE reported, citing an affidavit it obtained, that Makinson began screaming and stabbed the victim in the buttocks as they passed each other near the locker room after the victim finished training.
The victim told police that Makinson chased her through the gym while holding a knife in the air that was 4 to 6 inches high, police said.

The affidavit states that people gathered around the victim to protect him when Makinson began yelling, “Who else do you want?” Police later found Makinson behind the gym, where he allegedly told officers, “I just got out of jail for this.” Records show Makinson was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Austin in 2011 for a second stabbing, and was later released on parole in 2021.
As a result of the investigation, Makinson was again charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police said the victim was taken to Del Seton Medical Center, where he immediately required 500 milliliters of blood, and the victim’s stab wounds were 3 to 4 inches deep, according to the affidavit. , adding that it required four staples to close.
