One of his kids is adopted, but he never makes him feel less than the others. He supports all of them in every way possible, which makes it even more heartbreaking to learn of his passing. As his sons, Kevin and Randall, grow up, they learn how to be good fathers. They make mistakes, but still want to help their kids. She wants to climb the social ladder and finally understand what it means to be cool in high school. Plus, she wants to find out what it means to get a boyfriend and lose her virginity. All of this is even more important to Devi, who is about to get into Princeton University. With her two best friends by her side and a strong sense of determination, Devi believes anything is possible.

The series begins after Devi’s father has passed away, but their relationship is still an important part of the series. For Devi, losing her father was very traumatic because he was a big presence in her life. She still sees him in her dreams and visions, encouraging her to do the right thing and never give up on her dreams. While these representations may not be real, they still show what kind of person Devi’s father was – a kind man who always saw the good in his daughter. Any young person would be lucky to have such a father.
