7-foot-1 Sharks prospect Alexander Karmanov fights Kings rookie in exciting viral brawl

Unexpected Hockey Showdown

Most individuals probably wouldn’t choose to challenge a towering 7-foot-1, 280-pound hockey player. But Liam Lefebvre? He’s not your average guy.

This Los Angeles Kings prospect squared off against San Jose Sharks rookie Alexander Karmanov—the tallest player ever drafted in the NHL—during the 2026 Rookie Faceoff on Saturday.

It was indeed a wild sight considering the extraordinary size difference. The altercation began late in the third period when Karmanov leveled Kings defenseman Jakub Dvorak in the neutral zone. Dvorak remained on the ice with an upper-body injury, which prompted a few Kings players to confront Karmanov.

Then, in a surprising move, Lefebvre intervened. Standing at 6-foot-3, he’s typically considered a large player, but next to Karmanov, he looked almost like a younger brother.

The two dropped their gloves, a scene that was something of a mismatch from the outset. Karmanov quickly capitalized on his remarkable reach advantage before Lefebvre ended up on the ice. As he skated toward the penalty box, Karmanov animatedly gestured for the San Jose crowd to cheer louder.

Selected 201st overall in June’s NHL Draft, Karmanov hails from Moldova, making him the tallest player ever drafted into the league.

After the fight, Karmanov reflected on the moment, stating it was just a part of the game. “I asked the guy if he wanted to go,” he told the media. “Yeah, we went.”

And indeed, they certainly did. It’s a moment that might leave fans talking for quite some time.
