GOP Rep. Thomas Massie seeks to push for a vote on making Epstein documents public.

GOP Push for Epstein Files Transparency

Representative Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has put forth a bipartisan resolution aimed at compelling the Department of Justice (DOJ) to release files related to the disgraced financier, Jeffrey Epstein.

This initiative, co-led by Massie and Representative Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), is known as the Epstein Files Transparency Act (EFTA). Its main goal is to ensure that the House votes on a complete release of government files pertaining to Epstein.

Massie shared his announcement via an X post, emphasizing the public’s right to know the contents of the Epstein Files and the individuals who are implicated. “We all deserve to know what is included in the Epstein Files, who is involved, and how deep this corruption will become,” he stated.

He highlighted that discharge petitions serve as a method to circumvent the leadership’s control, allowing for a potential vote if 218 signatures are gathered. “If your representative does not sign the discharge petition, we will ask why,” he added, indicating the political pressure that may come from constituents.

The response to Massie’s post has been notable, garnering over 3.2 million views and 57,000 likes within a short period, hinting at substantial public interest.

If this resolution gains approval, the DOJ would be obligated to publish all unclassified records related to Epstein within 30 days. This publication would include documents and communications from both the DOJ and the FBI. Notably, Massie has specified that these documents should not be manipulated or delayed.

Support from other GOP members is evident, with Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), Eric Burrison (R-Mo.), and Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.) backing the petition.

Greene expressed her commitment by stating, “I will never protect pedophiles, elites and their circles,” in her response to Massie’s announcement.

While most Democrats are anticipated to support Massie’s endeavor, particularly in light of previous efforts by Khanna to push for the release of information related to Epstein, the resolution seems to garner increasing bipartisan support.

In other developments, former President Donald Trump referred to Epstein’s legacy as indicative of a “horror” among affluent circles. He suggested on Truth Social that Democrats are leveraging the Epstein narrative for political gains.

The political landscape surrounding this topic remains tense and complex, leaving many to wonder about the implications of these developments.
