Oregon man taken into custody near US Capitol reportedly had several weapons in his vehicle.

A 23-year-old man from Oregon was taken into custody on Wednesday after a Capitol Police officer spotted a Subaru parked illegally, which contained several suspicious items, including an antique sword, a gun, a knife, and unregistered ammunition.

Nolan R. Churan faces multiple charges, such as carrying a pistol and rifle without a license, possession of dangerous weapons, and possession of unregistered firearms and ammunition. It’s quite a list, isn’t it?

According to authorities, Capitol Police’s First Responder Unit was patrolling the area around 9 AM when they noticed the vehicle parked in a zone designated for Congress staff—without the necessary permit. Inside, they found items that looked like a bow and arrow, a knife, and an empty pistol holster.

When officers checked Churan’s driver’s license, they began tracking him near a barricade. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to having a firearm in the vehicle. A K-9 unit confirmed the presence of either a gun or ammunition, leading police to search the car for more evidence.

The search yielded a variety of weapons, including rifles, handguns, and various knives. Authorities expressed their concern about what Churan was doing near the Capitol, stating their Threat Assessment section is looking into the matter.

As of Wednesday afternoon, officials had not established any connections between Churan and Congress. Importantly, he does not seem to have any active files with Capitol Police.

There hasn’t been an immediate response from Capitol Police regarding the situation.
