Cameron Heyward indicates he would prevent the Steelers from trading T.J. Watt

Cameron Hayward’s Stance on TJ Watt’s Future with the Steelers

Cameron Hayward has shared his thoughts on keeping TJ Watt from being traded by the Steelers, suggesting a rather bold approach: confronting general manager Omar Khan directly.

During a Wednesday appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Hayward humorously stated that if he hears whispers of a trade, he’ll make it clear to Khan that it’s not going to happen. “I don’t think trading such talents really helps our team,” he mentioned.

While chatting with WWE wrestler Seth Rollins, who co-hosted the show with Chris Brockman, Hayward laughed at the notion of having that kind of power. “No, no, I don’t have that power,” he joked, adding, “but I’ll definitely have a conversation about how this shouldn’t happen.”

As Watt’s contract extension discussions drag on, he’s expected to secure a deal averaging over $40 million per year, which is a pretty hefty sum.

Aside from the joking, Hayward made it clear how much he values Watt. “He’s like my brother,” he said emphatically. “I want him to get what he deserves because he’s one of the best in the league, incredibly respected. I cherish every moment on the field with him, and I really hope it won’t be our last season playing side by side. He needs to stay a Pittsburgh Steeler, wearing the same helmet for years to come.”

The Steelers are set to kick off their training camp on July 24, which should provide more clarity on Watt’s situation moving forward.
