High-Stakes Summit in China
Elon Musk, Tim Cook, and over a dozen other CEOs are set to join President Trump later this week for an eagerly awaited summit with Xi Jinping in China.
White House officials informed the Post that the U.S. delegation also includes Meta’s President and Vice Chairman, Dina Powell McCormick, BlackRock’s Chairman and CEO, Larry Fink, and Boeing’s President and CEO, Kelly Ortberg.
This visit from Wall Street and tech leaders aligns with Trump’s goal of addressing the trade imbalance with China. He is looking to convince Xi to make significant investments in the U.S. through large orders of planes, soybeans, and other products.
Interestingly, the relationship between Trump and Musk seems to be back on track after tensions arose in mid-2025. During that time, Musk called for Trump’s impeachment, while Trump threatened to remove Musk from his role in a government capacity. However, they’ve gradually mended their friendship, with Musk attending various White House events, especially those connected to SpaceX.
Musk has played a key role as a top contributor to Trump’s 2024 campaign and was instrumental in efforts aimed at reducing the federal workforce after the election.
Yet, Musk’s controversial government involvement has impacted Tesla’s profits. Additionally, there has been some public spat regarding Jared Isaacman, whom Musk wanted to lead NASA. Though Trump initially withdrew Isaacman’s nomination, he later reinstated it as their friendship improved.
Notably absent from the trip is Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, a leader in the tech sector that supplies chips pivotal to the AI boom. Cisco Systems’ CEO, Chuck Robbins, was also invited but will miss the trip due to the company’s quarterly earnings report.
It is still uncertain which executives will be traveling with the president on Air Force One and who will choose different transportation options.
According to the White House, here’s a list of executives participating in the visit to China:
- Apple (Tim Cook)
