Connie Francis Passes Away at 87
Connie Francis, the iconic singer known for memorable hits like “Everyone’s Someone’s Fool” and “Pretty Little Baby,” has sadly passed away at the age of 87. Ron Roberts, the president of Francis’ record label Concetta Records, broke the news on her official Facebook page.
In a heartfelt message, he expressed, “It’s with a heavy heart and extreme sadness that I let you know my dear friend Connie Francis passed away last night.” He also indicated that Connie would have preferred her fans to hear the news directly from her team. “Further details will follow,” he added.
Just recently, Francis had shared on social media that she had been hospitalized due to “extreme pain.” In her post, she mentioned, “I’m back in the hospital, undergoing tests to figure out what’s causing this pain.” Following some intensive care, she was pleased to report that she had moved to a private room. Two days later, she updated her fans, saying, “After a good night, I’m feeling much better.” Her last message was posted on July 4.
Francis first rose to fame in the 1950s with hit singles like “My Heart Has a Mind of Its Own,” “I Have a Boy,” and “Don’t Break the Heart That Loves You.” In 2018, she recounted the behind-the-scenes story of her famous song “Who’s Sorry Now?” She remembered how her father was initially hesitant for her to record it, thinking it was old-fashioned. “I ended up recording it as my final song,” she said, mentioning how her dad practically insisted on it.
Throughout her life, Connie faced numerous personal challenges, including a heartbreaking attempted suicide in 1984 and surviving a rape in 1974. She spoke candidly about her struggles with mental health, sharing that she was involuntarily committed to mental health facilities 17 times over nine years. Despite these trials, she persevered and left a lasting impact on the music world.
Connie Francis was married four times and is survived by her son, Joseph Gargili Jr. Her legacy will undoubtedly live on through her music and the memories she created for her fans.
