Dana Bash declines to read Trump's CNN insult while referencing a Truth Social post

CNN anchor Dana Bash opted not to read part of a reference regarding her own network on Tuesday, which came from a social media post by former President Donald Trump.

In his post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized, “It’s crucial that all Republicans stand by my request.” He also called for a refund of taxpayer money for certain public broadcasters, particularly PBS and NPR, arguing the situation is worse than anything from CNN or MSNBC. He stated that Republicans who support such funding lack his backing.

While discussing the topic on “Inside Politics,” Bash skipped the comment that labeled CNN and MSNBC as the worst, instead saying, “I’m not going to read it.” This decision was notable amidst discussions about a $1 billion funding bill linked to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which supports NPR and PBS.

Trump has threatened to pull federal funding from these organizations and previously issued an executive order in May aimed at limiting taxpayer support.

In February, he criticized CNN, mentioning he no longer trusts the network. Additionally, earlier this month, Trump revealed plans with DHS Secretary Christy Noem to potentially pursue legal action against CNN over their reports related to an app designed to track ICE agents, claiming the network’s reporting on U.S. military actions in Iran was misleading.

Bash has frequently confronted Trump on her show regarding his remarks, making it clear she doesn’t agree with his assertions. For instance, she recently recalled Trump saying that CNN hates the country, to which she responded, emphasizing her longstanding presence in journalism and the importance of constructive discourse.
