Injury Threatens Clark’s All-Star Game Participation
New York Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello is eager to coach Caitlyn Clark at the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game, though Clark’s recent injury may jeopardize that chance. Speaking to reporters before a recent victory over the Indiana Fever, Brondello expressed concern after Clark had to leave a game due to a groin injury sustained during a matchup on Tuesday.
Brondello acknowledged, “You don’t want to see a player get injured… She’s such a talented player. It would have been great for our fans to see her play, and hopefully, they’ll get to see her later.” It’s clear that having Clark in the game would be exciting for everyone involved.
“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to get to know her more during the All-Star festivities. It’s fun to coach players I haven’t worked with before and just enjoy the event,” she added.
Clark, who won fan voting, was set to join Brondello as she is a notable figure with an impressive record. As a captain in her second All-Star appearance, she was also expected to compete in her first three-point contest, but this latest injury complicates things.
Fever Coach Comments on Injury Status
Fever coach Stephanie White indicated that there had been no discussions regarding Clark’s participation in the All-Star weekend as of now. “There hasn’t been any conversation about it yet,” White mentioned to the media prior to Wednesday’s game. “Imaging has been completed, and she’s sitting out tonight, but we’re not discussing the weekend.”
This injury marks Clark’s second groin-related issue this season, raising concerns. White believes it may not be the same type as her previous injuries, especially since Clark had already missed five games earlier this season due to a quad injury.
White explained, “I can’t say for sure if this injury is similar to earlier ones. Injuries like these can vary, depending on the situation.” With the All-Star weekend approaching, the Fever are left to navigate the uncertainty that accompanies Clark’s condition.
The Fever are set to host the All-Star weekend beginning Friday, and there’s a lot at stake for both the team and Clark, who has proven to be a pivotal player this season.
